Summary - In this study, we developed a methodology and refined two regressive models for estimating the number of drivers, using actual characteristics of public transport services. These characteristics were taken into account through synthetic parameters that are directly measured on the service in question. In this manner, the main limitation of the existing cost models is overcome. Existing models, in fact, use as inputs the number of drivers calculated through average parameters taken from a sample of transport services rather than the one in question.
Our methodology was developed to specifically allow es- timation of the service cost for different supply schemes re- alised in the same area, with the same overall mileage but with different effectiveness and efficiency levels.
