Summary - Given the multidisciplinary nature characterizing BIM and the heterogeneity of the stakeholders involved in the development of a facility project, the BIM methodology cannot be applied without the collaboration of all the parties involved and without a digital system that allows the interaction between all the subjects. The interoperability in a BIM process is therefore based on the use of calculation codes deriving from different software houses, guaranteeing the transversality of the information models, preserving completeness and modifiable data. In the panorama of software that can be used, can currently be seen in Continental Europe and Northern Europe a growing use of Trimble Novapoint which uses more recent calculation codes compared to other competitors, together with Trimble Quadri for the sharing and usability of information. With the aim of highlighting the limits and advantages deriving from the use of Novapoint & Quadri, this article describes the development of the BIM model of the “Variante Villammare” railway section, foreseen by the feasibility study of Italferr S.p.A. in the Ogliastro - Sapri section. For the evaluation in terms of interoperability, the analysis of this code was performed in comparison with the more well-known Open Rail Designer (Bentley BIM Authoring).
