The present paper deals with the
transportation quality of the timetable, tied to the
attractiveness of the services offered for the potential train
passengers: the timetable quality is associated to the
possibility of optimizing the community time factor and
improving, for the same fares, the modal share in favor of
the train. In this aim the possible design trade-offs, that
can arise in the definition of a timetable structure, and the
possible advantages and disadvantages towards the
different potential demand segments are highlighted. The
subject of the necessity to quantify these advantages and
disadvantages and to measure this type of quality is
hereby faced and a possible deepening and development
area concerning modeling is highlighted.
