Summary - Technological innovation and constant monitoring of the “conditions of health” of the network are two essential pillars to guarantee the safety and sustainability of modern railway infrastructures. In this context, RFI’s Innovation, Research and Development Testing and Experimentation Laboratories represent a reference point for research, experimentation and measurements on railway components. In the plant located in the heart of Rome, in Via di Portonaccio, activities are carried out regarding tests on materials, measurements on civil and railway works, electrical measurements, ATP tests, measures for the safety of workers, certified calibrations and environmental impact analysis, according to the quality standard provided by the International Standards. The Laboratories stand out for their monitoring and analysis activities, thanks also to collaborations with universities and research institutions, and inheriting the valuable know-how of the Experimental Institute thus providing an important contribution to the continuous improvement of the performance of the national railway infrastructure. Recently, the Testing and Experimentation Environments, Infrastructure and Laboratory Environment organisation conducted a measurement campaign on four entry and exit turnouts of a station located on an HS/HC line in order to observe and analyse the phenomena that occur, on the infrastructure side, at the transit of a railway convoy. This article describes the activity carried out, the technologies used and the results of the monitoring.
