Railway Superstructure Test Frame (RSTF): a full-scale, multifunctional prototype used for the laboratory testing of railway superst

Summary - As part of the research activities promoted by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, this paper presentsthe functions and design scheme of the Railway Superstructure Test Frame, a prototype experimental platform for the laboratory study of the mechanical behavior of full-scale railway superstructures. The experimental facility, featuring a long-span test frame capable of< electro-actuated vertical movement, is equipped with integrated and wayside measurement systems for conducting dynamic load tests transmitted directly from a railway wheelset to sections of track. The work illustrates the prototype’s potential as a tool for off-road analysis and validation of technical solutions for railway superstructures, providing preliminary performance data and supporting the experimental development of innovative solutions or the calibration of specific digital models.
