Summary - The conversion of a “light” tramway line of the FS Castellammare di Stabia-Gragnano railway line, whose operation was suspended from 2010, is an idea that dates back to 2002 when such line was intended for the ‘light city rail system’ in the Regional Transport Plan of Campania.
The article outlines the design idea for the redevelop- ment of the railway line, which confirms the existing route but involves the realisation of 5 new intermediate stops, in- cluding the interchange with the Naples-Sorrento EAV rail- way line, the true key strength of the project.
The results of the analysis of systematic displacements (home-study and home-work), as measured by the 2011 commuting matrix concerning the areas affected by the in- tervention, are presented together with the estimate of po- tential demand, which seems comforting and such as to justify the intervention in full.
