Multiple linear regression and AHP for Railway Traffic Control Workstations resource optimization: a data-driven approach

Summary - The allocation of resources for railway traffic control workstations is frequently a subject of controversy between trade unions and railway management. Traditionally, the determination of personnel to be assigned to Centralize Rail Traffic Controller workstations has been influenced by subjective factors rather than objective criteria. This study proposes a methodology that transforms this process into a technical problem, utilizing a multiple linear regression model based on quantitative factors (number of trains in the area of competence, stations traversed, frequency of interruptions) and analyzing qualitative factors (spacing systems, line characteristics, remote control systems) through the AHP multi-criteria analysis process. By integrating these methods, the model provides a comprehensive framework for determining optimal resource allocation, reducing subjective influence and improving operational efficiency in railway traffic management.
