Mitigation of seismic vulnerability through the isolation technique: the case study of the Cosenza Vaglio Lise station

Summary - The entry into force of the Ordinance of the President of the Council of Ministers no. 3274/03 [1], for the first time in Italy, regulated the application of seismic isolation devices, allowing designers to use the aforementioned passive seismic protection systems, without having to go through the complex procedural process that ended with the opinion of the Higher Council of Public Works. The principles introduced by the Ordinance are transposed as requirements following the earthquake that struck the territory of L’Aquila, with the entry into force of the Technical Standards for Construction of 2008 [2] and the definitive repeal of the rules approved by Ministerial Decree 09/01/1996 [3]. The events just represented have allowed the spread of isolation systems throughout the country over the last decade, both with reference to newly built structures and to the retrofitting of existing structures that are the subject of this study.
