The article is structured as follows: it
initially shows the theoretical principles, describing the
use of circuit networks (thermal networks) to represent
the thermal behaviour of electrical machines; the overall
architecture of the Frecciarossa ETR 500 train propulsion
system and the cooling systems used are then described
briefly; the central part of the article addresses
the real description of thermal models and explains validations
of the same, followed by simulations of real
routes travelled by the train; the conclusions are finally
presented.
